Ok i just bought my ys 640 in November of 2016. I am confused about the heat diffuser. in the manual it says to only use it up to 400 degrees, but now i am reading that they have been upgraded and can be used at any temperature on the smoker?

That is correct. The optional 2 piece diffuser is a better option if you are wanting to do this.
