Unit shorting breaker

I have a 640 Comp cart. I took the smoker to a competition and than left the smoker in the trailer while on vacation. I pulled out the unit and tried to cook Sunday night dinner. The smoker turn off 4 times, tripping the breaker each time(On a GFI Circuit in the backyard).
I am thinking with all the trailer travel maybe the ignitor shorted out. Just looking for opinions before I buy a new one.

Follow the manual lighting procedure in the user manual, which requires unplugging the igniter, and see if the cooker functions without blowing the GFCI.
